*Funeral Services for Bruce Phipps, 83, of Valentine, will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 5th at United Methodist Church of Valentine with burial to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Holmes Funeral Home.  Bruce Phipps passed away Monday March 1st in the Cherry County Hospital.

* Funeral Mass for Raymond Schaefer, 80, of Valentine, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, in the St. Nicholas Catholic Church of Valentine with burial to follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Raymond Schaefer passed away Sunday, Feb. 28, in the Cherry County Hospital at Valentine. A Rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday in the St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife Ruth of Valentine; daughters Terri Kreycik of Ainsworth and Sandra Jacobsen of Salado, Texas; sister Ruth Ferris of Valentine; and brothers Clem Schaefer and Lynn Schaefer, both of Valentine.

* Funeral service for Marie Lange, 90, of Grand Island, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, in the Faith United Methodist Church of Grand Island. Visitation is scheduled for 4 until 7 p.m. Monday in the All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island. Survivors include husband Lawrence of Grand Island; daughters Marietta Lange and husband Vernon of Grand Island, and Jacque Sybrant and husband Dale of Bassett; son Gregory Lange and wife Wanda of Tacoma, Wash.; six grandchildren and one step-granddaughter; 10 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; sister Lucille Hopkins of Stuart; brother Harold Ammon and wife Delores of Bassett; sister-in-law Elenor Ammon of Bassett; and nieces and nephews.

* Funeral service for Margaret M. Goodwin, 96, of Valentine, Feb. 25, in the Valentine United Methodist Church with burial in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Margaret Goodwin passed away Feb. 20 in the Pine View Good Samaritan Center at Valentine. Survivors include her daughter Barbara Cornett of Worland, Wyo.; sons Bob Goodwin of North Platte, Rick Goodwin of Salem, Ark., and Jack Goodwin of Spokane, Wash.; and sister Gertrude Sorenson of Lubbock, Texas.

* Memorial service for Jana E. Sever, 56, of Bassett, Feb. 24 in the Kingdom Hall of Ainsworth with inurnment at a later date in the Randolph Cemetery. Jana Sever passed away  Feb. 19 in the Rock County Hospital. Survivors include her husband Gary Sever of Bassett; son Blaine Sever of Blairsville, Pa.; daughter Andrea Perez and husband John of Aberdeen, S.D.; one grandson; parents Omar and Gloria Smith of Norfolk; brothers Wesley Smith and wife Darla of O'Neill, and Warren Smith of Coupeville, Wash.; and nieces and nephews.

* Funeral service for Harold E. Hill, 83, of Johnstown, Feb. 22, in Hoch Funeral Home of Ainsworth. Harold Hill passed away Feb. 17 in the West Holt Memorial Hospital at Atkinson. Survivors include his wife Evelyn Hill of Johnstown; son Kenny Hill and friend Jolene Walters of Ainsworth; daughters Gaylene Hill of Lincoln, Kay Hill of Johnstown and Pam Hill of Beatrice; and nieces and nephews.

* Funeral service for Raymond Estes, 84, of Stuart, Feb. 19 in the St. Boniface Catholic Church of Stuart with burial in the Stuart Community Cemetery. Raymond Estes passed away Feb. 15 in his Stuart home. Survivors include his wife Mary Catherine Estes of Stuart; children Rosemary Briggs of Dimondale, Mich., Patti Frickel and husband Tom of Atkinson, Doris Estes of Stuart, Vickie Seger and husband Leo of Atkinson, and Alan Estes and wife Kim of Stuart; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and sister Evelyn Rudolf of Chapman.

* Funeral service for Harold Krieger, 67, of Atkinson, Feb. 20, in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Atkinson with burial in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Harold Krieger passed away Feb. 14 in the West Holt Memorial Hospital. *Funeral service for Betty Ormesher, 89, of Valentine Feb 15 at the Presbyterian Church, Valentine with burial in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Valentine. She passed away Feb. 11 at Pine View Good Samaritan Center in Valentine.  Survivors include: daughters Deloris Hornung, Lincoln, Marcy Cox, Valentine and son, Ted of Valentine.

*Funeral service for Larry Blevins, age 75 of Lincoln Feb 11 at Butherus, Maser, & Love Funeral Home in Lincoln.  He was raised in the Ainsworth area and graduated for Ainsworth High School in 1953.  Area relatives are:  Jan Pennington - sister-in-law, and Stan Pennington, Nephew of Ainsworth.

* Funeral service for Orville Dixon, 89, of Pierre, South Dakota,  Feb. 13, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Gregory, SD.  Burial at the Winner Cemetery. He passed away Feb. 7th in Lincoln.  He grew up on the Dixon Ranch in Springview and graduated from Keya Paha Co. High School in 1939.   Survivors include wife, Ina (Haaf) Dixon of Lincoln; two daughters, Judy and Jean, one son, Ivan; and brother, Howard Dixon of Springview. 

* Funeral service for R.T. Hopkins, 32, of Climax, Ga., Feb. 10, in the Clary-Glenn Funeral Home at DeFuniak Springs, Fla. He passed away Feb. 6, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Survivors include wife Teronda Hopkins of Climax, Ga.; son Nicholas Hopkins of Glendale, Fla. and Nicholas' mother Barbara Hopkins; father Donald Hopkins and wife Jeanine of Bassett; mother Kendra Rollins and husband Richard of Glendale, Fla.; grandparents Lucille Hopkins of Bassett, and Kenneth Fredrick and Joyce Lesher; brothers Jamie Hopkins of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., Zack Hinkle and Christopher Rollins both of Glendale, Fla.; sister Nickia Padgett of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., and numerous other relatives.

* Memorial services for Floyd A. Olson, 86, of Bassett, Feb. 12 in the Bassett St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bassett. He passed away Feb. 8, in the Rock County Long Term Care Center at Bassett.  Survivors include his wife Shirley Olson of Bassett; daughters Cathi Markisich and husband Pete of Rock Springs, Wyo., Mary Foxworthy and husband Terry of Bassett, and Jill Sharkey and husband Chet of Friend; son Chris Olson of Friend; sister Marjorie Gors and husband Wayne of Sioux Falls, S.D.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Memorials have been suggested to the donor’s choice.

* Graveside service for Fred R. Assarsson, 102, of Ainsworth, Feb. 5, at the Ainsworth Cemetery. He passed away Feb. 3, in the Rock County Long Term Care Center at Bassett. Survivors include his wife Ruth Assarsson of Ainsworth; sons Clifford Assarsson and wife Pauline of Ainsworth, and Gary Assarsson and wife Barbara of Long Pine; daughter Louree Beguin and husband Ernie of Ainsworth; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Memorials have been suggested to the Rock County Long Term Care Center or to the Ainsworth Senior Center.

* Word has been received of the death of former Ainsworth resident Robert "Gene" O'Donnell of Longmont, Colo. Funeral service was held Jan. 7. He passed away Jan. 1 at the age of 88. Survivors include his wife Jackie of Longmont.

* Funeral service for Lee Anderson, 75, of Newberg, Ore., formerly of Ainsworth, Jan. 30, in Attrell’s Newberg Funeral Chapel with interment at Valley View Memorial Park in Newberg. He passed away Tuesday, Jan. 19, in his home at Newberg, Ore.  Survivors include his friend Betty Johnson of Newberg; three sisters, Ida Anderson and Rutha May Blundel, both of Nebraska, and Iva Marie of Iowa; and brother Andy Anderson and wife Trish of Indiana.

* Funeral service for Elaine J. Bussinger, 66, of Bassett, Jan. 29, in the Bassett St. Peter Lutheran Church with burial in the Bassett Memorial Park Cemetery. She passed away Jan. 25, in her Bassett home. Survivors include husband Gary Bussinger of Bassett; sons Tim Bussinger of Bassett, Kevin Bussinger and wife Jennifer of Austin, Texas, Bradd Bussinger and wife Brandy of Bassett, and Brian Bussinger and wife Misty of Cozad; 12 grandchildren; mother Ilene Stewart of Bassett; brothers Les Jurgens and wife Hilga of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Gary Jurgens of Fort Collins, Colo.; sister Connie Nash of Piedmont, S.D.; sister-in-law Betty Marcellus and husband Ron of Franklin; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Survivors include brother Frank Stewart of Valentine; and sisters Ella Claire Barnet of Blue River, Wis., and Betty Geiser of Louisville, Ky.

* Funeral service for Dewey Kerwin Polen, 62, of Loup City, formerly of Rock County, Jan. 27, in the Loup City Community Building with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery at Loup City. He passed away Jan. 23, in the Good Samaritan Hospital at Kearney. Survivors include wife Barb of Loup City; son Rob Polen of St. Paul; daughters Sherie Kuszak and husband Mike of Loup City, and Tamara Sabatka of Holdrege; nine grandchildren; mother Naoma Polen of Valley; brothers Harry Polen of Bennington, Marlow Polen and wife Phyllis of Cedar Bluffs, and Albert Polen of Long Pine; sister LaVonne of Valley; brothers-in-law Garry Vargason of Bassett and Lowell Peterson of York; and numerous nieces and nephews. He passed away Jan. 17, in West Holt Memorial Hospital. Survivors include mother Marla Bowman of Atkinson; father Allen Bowman of Spencer; brother Dalton Hopson of Atkinson; sisters Candace Hopson of Omaha and Breanna Bowman of Atkinson; grandmothers Lucille Bowman of Spencer, and Ethel Parshall of Kingman, Ariz.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

* Funeral service for Helen Eatinger, 83, of North Platte formerly of Valentine,  Jan. 21, in the Sandoz Chapel of the Pines at Valentine with burial in the Mount Hope Cemetery at Wood Lake. She passed away Thursday in North Platte. Survivors include son John Eatinger of Ainsworth; two granddaughters; and brother John Ballard of California.

* Funeral service for Mike Riley, 60, of Kearney formerly of Bassett, Jan. 18, in the Saint James Catholic Church of Kearney. He is survived by five children, seven grandchildren, and sister Sue Heyden and husband Lanny of Newport.

* Family graveside service for Steven A. Bussinger, 61, of Bassett, Jan. 18, at the Bassett Memorial Park Cemetery. He passed away Jan. 12, in the Madonna Rehabilitation Center of Lincoln. Survivors include his wife Connie Bussinger of Bassett; children Lynette Morey and husband Herb of Omaha, Teresa Beed and husband Vaughn of West Point, Susan Fleming and fiance Ted Morton of Bassett, and Erich Bussinger and wife Mitz of Bassett; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; mother Marjorie Bussinger of Bassett; mother-in-law Irene Bain of Bassett; brothers Ernest Bussinger and wife Connie of Scottsbluff, and Bill Bussinger and Norma Labahn of Bassett; sisters Sue Boltz of Lincoln, Carol Kuhre and husband Doug of Johnstown, and Meri Lee Bussinger of Lincoln; and nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be designated to the Rock County Senior Center or to the family in his name.

He passed away Jan. 12 in the Kearney County Health Services Hospital at Minden. Survivors include his wife Alice of Minden; daughters Laureen Van Norman and husband Steven Hanson of Lincoln, and Nancy Weber and husband Craig of Kearney; sons Kurt Van Norman and wife Annette of York, and Kris Van Norman and wife Jeanie of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson; and brother Warren Van Norman of Sun City, Ariz.

She passed away Jan. 5, in Pierceville, Kan. Survivors include sons Richard Pospichal and wife Pat of Garden City, Kan., and Mike Pospichal and wife Mary of Atkinson; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

* Funeral service for Bernard Phifer, 91, of Callaway, Jan. 9 in the Callaway United Methodist Church with burial in the Arnold Cemetery. He passed away Jan. 6, at Kearney. * Funeral service for Eugene Zillig, 82, of Neligh Jan. 6, at Calvary Bible Church in Neligh with burial at the Ainsworth Cemetery. He passed away Jan. 1 at Neligh.

* Kenneth William Schroder, 69, of Hay Springs formerly of Ainsworth died Dec. 29 at Pioneer Manor in Hay Springs. Funeral services were Jan. 2 at the Chadron Berean Church. Burial with military honors was held at the Ashby Cemetery. Survivors include: his wife Kay; son Shane Schroder; one granddaughter; sister Ruby Bishop and husband Harry of Scottsbluff; brother Ed Schroder of Hyannis; and numerous uncles and aunts, and nieces and nephews.

* Funeral service for former Ainsworth resident Terry Fales, 59, of Broken Bow Jan. 5 in the Evangelical Free Church in Broken Bow with burial at the Arnold, Nebraska cemetery. He passed away Dec. 30 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Survivors include a step-daughter; Jenny Landen of Kearney, step-son; Thad Hock of Denver, Colorado and a sister; Connie and husband Dan Spencer of Hastings. Terry was employed at KBRB in Ainsworth starting in 1973.

* Funeral service for Dorothy Ann Farr, 80, of Atkinson Jan. 5, in St. John’s Lutheran Church of Atkinson with burial in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Atkinson. She passed away Dec. 31 at West Holt Memorial Hospital in Atkinson. Survivors include daughter Janet J. Farr of Atkinson; daughter-in-law Perri Farr of Stuart; three grandchildren; brother Max Karo and wife Luella of Stuart; and sister DeLores Seger and husband James of Milaca, Minn.

* Funeral service for Blanche L. Dutrow, 87 of Ainsworth, Jan. 4, in Hoch Funeral Home of Ainsworth with burial in the Ainsworth Cemetery. She passed away TDec. 31, in her home in Ainsworth.  Survivors include son Wayne Dutrow and wife Shirley of Ainsworth; sister Mabel Morris and husband Ed of Soldotna, Alaska; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

* Funeral service for Robert H. Coleman, 89, of Ainsworth, Jan. 5, in the Bassett United Methodist Church with burial in the Bassett Memorial Park Cemetery. He passed away Dec. 30. Survivors include wife O'Dean Coleman of Ainsworth; daughters Roberta Coleman of Alemeda, Calif., and Carol Lewien and husband Gary of Aurora; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister Ethel Martinson and husband "Red" of Eugene, Ore.; sisters-in-law the Rev. Neva Murphy and husband Don of Ainsworth, Erva Peirsol and husband Bart of Farnam, and Susan Blattner of Bassett; and nieces and nephews.

* Memorial service for George Lyman "Doc" White, 77, of Long Pine Jan. 4 in the Atkinson United Methodist Church with a private family inurnment at a later date. He passed away Dec. 29, in the Brown County Hospital at Ainsworth. Survivors include his wife the Rev. Sherry Sklenar of Cambridge; and daughter Cheryl White of Atkinson.
