Hughes Jones, age 91 of Spokane, Washington, formerly of Ainsworth will be held at 130 pm Friday, May 16 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Ainsworth with a reception for family and friends following the service. Funeral service for former Bassett resident Rachel Peterson age 96 of Hay Springs April 14 at the United Methodist Church in Hay Springs. She passed away April 8. Survivors include daughters; Delmira Oatman of Omaha, Neva Forbes of Hay Springs and Lavonne Linke of Lincoln. Sons; Walter (Bud) Peterson of Gainsville, Georgia and Jerry Peterson of Sioux City, Iowa. The Peterson's operated a hardware/grocery store in Bassett in the early 1950's.
A celebration of life for Doyle W. White age 90 of Riverton, Wyoming was held April 12 at the Davis Funeral Home in Riverton. He passed away April 8 at the Western Nebraska Veterans' Home in Scottsbluff. Doyle Wayne White was born on his grandparents' homestead in Keya Paha County on August 16, 1917, the son of Jesse Lowell White and Pearl May (Cook) White. He attended Keya Paha County Schools. He married Katherine McDole Manning on July 13, 1937, on his grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary. Three children were born to this union. Mr. White worked for the Lackaff Cattle Company in Bassett, Neb., and was a volunteer firefighter before moving to Riverton where he worked for Gilpatrick Construction Company until his retirement. After 22 years with Gilpatrick, he turned to woodworking and created many unique projects. He also developed a passion for rebuilding and restoring antique engines. Mr. and Mrs. White traveled throughout many states showing the engines. Mr. White was a founding member of the Wind River Flywheelers Club and belonged to the Cowboy State Antique Steam and Gas Engine Association. He was also a charter member of the American Legion in Bassett, Neb., a membership which he held for over 60 years. Survivors include, a son, Jim White and his wife Tiny of Sedgwick, Colo.; daughters, Beth Childers of Aurora, Colo., and Maredith Huntley and her husband Gary of Aztec, N,M.; seven grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers, one sister, a granddaughter, a grandson, a great granddaughter, and son-in-law, Paul R. Childers. Following a courageous battle with cancer, Janet Miller passed away on March 11, at the Clark County Healthcare Center in Owen, Wisconsin. Memorial services were held on March 15, 2008 at the New Harvest Assemble of God Church in Withee, Wisconsin. Janet was born in Stuart, Nebraska on June 6, 1940. She is survived by three children: Pamala Brekke (Paul) of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Monte Miller of Spooner, Wisconsin; Matt Miller (Tanta) and grandson Michael of Withee, Wisconsin; a sister, Shirley Meyers and husband LeRoy of Quartz Hill, California and a brother, Craig Smith and wife Jerri of Centennial, Colorado. Janet attended Ainsworth schools and graduated in 1958. That year she married Kay Miller of Bassett, Nebraska. In 1971 the family moved to Wisconsin to operate a dairy farm. Janet retired from her duties as Clerk/Treasurer for the Village of Withee approximately two years ago. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie R. Smith and Velda Smith and a sister, Joanne Snyder.

Friends in this area have been advised of the recent death of a former Ainsworth resident Duane Kennedy at a Houston, Texas hospital. He was the oldest son of "Ket" and Catherine Kennedy and was a 1946 graduate of Ainsworth High School. During his high school years, he achieved numerous athletic letters in football, basketball and track. He spent his early adult years working for the family owned Kennedy Equipment Company in Ainsworth. His retirement years were spent in Lake Havasu City, Arizona and Houston, Texas.

Former area resident William Darwin (Bill) Grazier passed away January 10 in Duluth, Minnesota after a lengthy illness. He was born October 16, 1927 to Joe and Opal Grazier in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The family moved to Brown County in 1935 and farmed northeast of Johnstown where he attended District 84N elementary school, Johnstown High School and graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1945. Suvivors include his wife Phyllis; son Steven and daughter-in-law Grace; grandsons Robin of Minneapolis, Titus, Michael and Bryan all of Duluth and sister Beverly Osborn and husband Gerry of Ainsworth, nieces and nephews. His ashes were placed in the select area of the Duluth Cemetery called Golden Pond.
